What does the damage look like?

Do you have a chip or a crack in your windshield, or glass missing somewhere on the vehicle? In Phoenix a stable chip does not stay stable. • A chip you could cover with a quarter, sitting off to one side. Resin fills it and the glass stays in the car. Start at windshield chip repair.

Can this be repaired, or does the glass have to come out?

Two things settle it, and only two. How big the damage is, and where on the windshield it sits.

Damage no larger than a quarter takes resin well. So does a single crack shorter than a folded dollar bill. Beyond that the repair carries load it was never designed to carry, and it lets go later, usually on a hot afternoon when you are already running late.

Position beats size every time. A small chip parked directly in front of the driver still gets a new windshield, because filled damage leaves a faint smear in the glass, and a smear sitting in your eyeline at freeway speed is a worse outcome than the chip you started with. A shop willing to fill a chip in that spot to save you a few dollars is not doing you a favor.

One local point about timing. Glass that has been baking in a parking lot all day is far hotter on the outside face than the inside face, and switching the air conditioning to full blast the moment you get in widens that difference in seconds. The two faces try to move by different amounts, the stress lands on the weakest point, and a chip that had been quiet for a month runs eight inches while you sit at a light. Book the repair before the next hot week rather than after it.

What happens if there is a camera behind the mirror?

Most vehicles from roughly 2018 onward carry a forward-facing camera clipped to a bracket on the windshield. Lane keeping, adaptive cruise, forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking all read the road through that one lens. The bracket is referenced off the glass, so when the glass changes, the camera’s idea of straight ahead changes with it. Recalibration puts that reference back where the manufacturer set it.

Dynamic calibration runs 45 to 60 minutes and involves driving the vehicle at a steady speed on marked road while the system relearns. Static calibration takes 1.5 to 2 hours and needs targets set at measured distances on level ground, which means it happens at the shop rather than in your driveway. Which procedure your vehicle takes is written by the manufacturer. We do not get to pick whichever is quicker.

This is not an add-on we invented. A camera measuring against the wrong baseline will read a lane line where there is none, and braking systems act on what the camera reports. ADAS calibration goes through which systems need it and how we verify the result.

Will insurance cover it?

Under Arizona law, ARS 20-469, the driver picks the shop. Your insurer can suggest a network shop and you are free to decline and name us instead. That is your call to make, not theirs, and saying so does not slow the claim down. Comprehensive glass coverage on an Arizona policy frequently carries a zero deductible, which means the glass work costs you nothing out of pocket. We bill the insurer directly and deal with the claim paperwork, so you are not paying us and then chasing a reimbursement months later. Can you come to me?

Yes, and mobile service is free anywhere in Maricopa County. We work within a 50 mile radius of the shop and cover the metro from Buckeye across to Apache Junction, north to Anthem and south to Maricopa. All we need at your end is a parking space with enough room around the vehicle to open both front doors fully.

Once the bead is laid and the glass located, you can drive one hour after installation. Full strength arrives at 24 hours. For that first day, skip the car wash, leave a window down an inch so a slammed door does not pressurize the cabin against a fresh bond, and take the tape off the next morning rather than that afternoon. Static calibration is the one job we cannot do at your house, for the reason above.

How do you arrive at a price?

Give us the year, make and model, and the VIN if you have it handy. Two identical-looking sedans off the same production line can take different windshields depending on whether they left the factory with a rain sensor, a heated wiper park, an acoustic interlayer, a head-up display, or one camera versus two. Quoting from year and model alone produces a number that changes when the truck shows up, and we would rather not do that to you.

You get the figure before you agree to anything. Auto glass takes no deposit at all, which is different from how our residential and commercial work runs, because vehicle glass is a catalog part rather than something cut to a single opening. Luxury and exotic vehicles are quoted individually since the glass itself is sourced differently. What we do not take on

We are a glass shop, so the boundary is worth drawing before you spend a morning on the phone with us. We do not repair power window mechanisms: regulators, motors, tracks and switches are electrical and mechanical work, not glass work. We do not do mirrors. If your window will not travel up and down but the glass itself is intact, the fault is behind the door card and another trade should look at it.

We are also a weekday operation, Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 5:00pm. If you need somebody at 9pm on a Saturday, we are not that company, and it is better you hear it now.

The warranty

Every auto glass job carries a written lifetime limited warranty on our workmanship and materials, held for as long as you own the vehicle. A leak that traces back to how the glass was set, or a bond that fails, is ours to put right at no charge. Sell the car and the coverage stops with you rather than transferring, which is standard across the trade. Fresh damage from a new rock is a new job, and we will say so plainly rather than pretend otherwise.

Who replaces auto glass in Phoenix?

Do you do more than windshields?

Yes. Back glass, door glass and quarter glass are all regular work for us, and side and rear glass tends to be a faster job than a windshield because there is no camera bracket involved. What we do not touch is the mechanical side of a window: motors, regulators and switches.

How long will the vehicle be tied up?

A windshield swap on a common vehicle takes about an hour of hands-on work. A door glass is usually quicker. Add 45 to 60 minutes on top if the vehicle needs dynamic calibration, or 1.5 to 2 hours if the manufacturer calls for static. Then you wait out the drive-away time before taking it anywhere.

My insurer named a shop. Do I have to use it?

No. ARS 20-469 puts that choice with you. Give the claims line our name and the claim carries on exactly as it would have, on the same timeline and with the same coverage.

Is the chip in my windshield going to spread?

In this climate, probably. Heat cycling in a Phoenix summer is hard on damaged laminate, and edge damage spreads faster than damage in the middle of the glass. A repair booked this week is a small bill. The replacement it turns into is not.

Do you take a deposit?

Not on vehicle glass. You pay when the job is finished, or your insurer does. Deposits apply to our residential and commercial glass, where units are cut to one specific opening and cannot be resold.
