It has never incorporated. Anthem is governed by its community council rather than a city hall, and the Anthem Country Club within it is gated but not age-restricted.
The Anthem Veterans Memorial, dedicated in 2011, is the best known thing in the community and one of the more remarkable pieces of public art in Arizona. Five pillars represent the five branches of the armed forces, and on 11 November at 11:11 in the morning the sun passes through all five and lands on the Great Seal of the United States set into the floor.
